Lancashire Social Circle
Nort-Sur-Erdre was the race point for the Circle's third and final old bird race, when once again the birds were nominated out of the NFC race by Circle members. I was away on holiday at the time of race marking and over the weekend of the race, so was very much in the capable hands of President Stephen Beardmore and Alan Bamford from the two marking stations to forward me the race entry forms. Entries were a little disappointing for some reason, with a number of members not wishing to take part. Following a one day hold over the pigeons were liberated at 07 00 hrs into a light north west wind, when members were looking for a 40mph race with the leading pigeons doing just shy of that.
Coming out on top was Bob Smith from the R & B Smith partnership who timed a 2y old cheq hen doing 1139, the second of their entries, the first was not nominated into the Circle race. Bob won the J S Kearns Trophy as the winner of the race along with the Reliance Trophy for the Best Average from the first and third OB races with a velocity of 1160, he also collects a Frank H Parsonage Award.

Great flying from Alan Jones the small team fancier from Liverpool who timed a 2y old blue cock on 1059, a well fancied pigeon being his nom bird that was 9th in the second race from Fougeres just two weeks ago for Alan.
Alan Jones Second in the LSC third OB Race
Bobby Brandon from Norden, Rochdale took the third prize with a 3y old blue hen on 1053 one of his roundabout pigeons that are always in the shake up in the channel races and have been for many years.

Giving other members a chance in this race was the winner of the first two races, John Winstanley with a 4y old blue hen on 1042. John like Bobby puts great faith in his team of racing hens that always make the result sheet. John wins the Arthur H Todd Trophy as winner of the OB Average with a velocity of 1211, the Cotswold Trophy presented to the winner of the Best Average from the second and third OB races on 1171 and a was runner-up to the Reliance Trophy.
John Winstanley Fourth in the race and Winner of the OB Average
Roger Sutton took the fifth spot with a 2y old cheq cock on 1031, Roger was runner-up OB Average on 1182 winning the Doctor William Anderson Trophy and was also runner-up to the Cotswold Trophy.

The final diploma was taken by George Pendleton who timed one of the most consistant pigeons of this season having been on the result in all three races this year, a 4y old cheq cock doing 1021. Its anyone of only five members left in the race for the Brian Dickinson Trophy going forward to the young bird race in September, these being Alan Jones, Peter Morris, Alan Bamford, Jim Frost and Bob Smith, best of luck to all of you.
