What A Cracker For The 1st Race
Well racing is back with us again and with all that has happened in the Moorlands Fed this year it could not come quickly enough. Anyway I was a bit apprehensive about this week’s race not knowing how many members would support the Fed and the Club but no need to worry as we had 17 members and 368 birds entered in the race from Tewkesbury As usual are basket dresser David had got everything sorted at the headquarters so we were ready for action on Friday night, everything went well with Janet and Kath in the pub taking the money and Dave Jones running the pontoon, everything was looking good, the only hiccup that occurred was a couple of rings did not register, so that will be put right for next week. Then it was down to the lads to get the birds basketed and sealed up ready for the transporter and as soon as that was done in to the pub for a few beers.
On to Saturday night and what a difference from Friday night when everything went smoothly. Saturday night was a nightmare. All winter Kath and myself have been busy getting the rings assigned for the members who wanted birds taken off their ETS systems and birds putting on the system and printing all the ring lists with no problems. Come Saturday night the first ETS to be read out all went well till it came to the printing of the birds clocked and then the printer would not work and no matter what we did it was having none. This problem with the printer put us back a good hour or more by the time we sourced another printer some members had left, so it was left to the few remaining members to read the clock sheets out and produce a race result that we eventually did around 9.45pm.
The race itself turned out to be a good one for Dave Jones of Pylon View Lofts who, with his small team of widowhood cocks, took the first and second places, the first bird is bred down from a hen purchased off Dave Goodwin from Hanley crossed with a Lambrecht, the second bird is a pure Lambrecht in third and fourth places is the well-known fancier from Kidsgrove Bill Burgess, next comes Roberts Bros with a £5 nom bird in the fed, sixth place goes to T Woolrich & Son
.The result
